Like a good neighbor, breweries are there!

I have a confession to make!

PNW Beer Moms is my very first rodeo in community service and social causes and I feel pretty guilty about that fact.

I attended Gonzaga University as a transfer student for the final two years of my bachelors degree way back in 2005-07 where I was surrounded by a student body and institution that stressed the importance of community service, social justice and volunteerism.  Most everyone I knew was doing some sort of volunteerism and giving to the community in some way, but not me.  I'm not sure if it was a sense of shyness, or indecisiveness, or if I just didn't know how to do it, but I did not join in, I didn't give any my time to helping others. I was a total slouch on the community front and I felt pretty lame about it. But I also knew I didn't want to stay that way and the feeling of wanting to be better has driven me to grow up a bit.

PNW Beer moms has so many important aspects to it, but community volunteerism was built into it for the very fact that I wanted to finally give back and stop being a lame ass, succubus.  Seriously, I didn't want to suck anymore! And I really do think it is important for a group of people who gather together to use their power of numbers to make a positive difference.  And so we have had food and diaper drives, have volunteered our time at fundraising brew festivals, and are currently holding our first book drive for Kids Need Books of Bellingham and even more great things are in the works. So I'm finally putting my ideals where my mouth is, which is often also drinking good beer. Ha!

I am telling you all this for a few reasons. First is to say that it isn't about me, it's about us as PNW Beer Moms being greater than our parts. But also it is about me, as I strive to be more like those I admire. And it's you, if you too have felt lame, like me, this is your chance! But also back to us! It is about us, a larger us, the whole craft beer community.

The really real reason I am writing this is to say:

Breweries are the best damn neighbors!

Like a good neighbor, breweries are there! Time and time again! Every time I have reached out to a brewery about our latest drive or cause I hear something similar to the Cocomelon song "How can I help? What can I do? I want to do a nice thing for you!" (Parents of young kids know the song I'm talking about). Every, Single. Time. I hear "Yes, yes, yes!" These breweries and beer businesses have given their time, space and even revenue to help others in the community and all I had to do was ask. Actually, I haven't even asked, they just jump on board! They all are making it so easy to drink beer and support good things in our community and it is so wonderful to have them as our neighbors.

So thank you Stemma Brewing, Salem Ale Works, 5 Rights Brewing, Brew Coffee and Tap House, Menace Brewing and everyone that has said yes! And to those we haven't partnered with yet, lets do something!

(If you have any gently used kids books laying around, drop them off at Menace Brewing Wednesday, June 16th, 2021 and receive a $1 off a beer! Need a wish list or want to donate online, go to www.knbbellingham.org
