It doesn't get much more Beer Mom than this!

Having my first kid really got me into baking. I couldnt afford to hire someone to do all the cute things I wanted to have (thanks to Pinterest boards!) at my daughters first birthday, but darn it! Why not try it myself!? Afterall, YouTube and Google's gets you far! Well over almost 5 years of first birthdays and baby showers and holidays, I'm slightly better than an amateur!  With a little foresight and persistence, my new mantra is "Anything you can do, I can (learn to) do better! (or atleast equal... or close!)"
Each project has led me to new questions and bigger ideas, which calls for more problem solving. My latest cookie making adventure led me to ask the question, "Can you make your own cookie cutter?" And guess what? You can! And it's the most Beer Mommiest thing ever! I got to try it out myself last week while helping PNW Beer Mom Brandy make some Thanksgiving cookies. We needed to cut out a bagillion feathers for a Turkey cookie platter. Now I'm passing this genius on to you.

Here's what you need:

Sharp scissors, an empty beer can and pliers (not 100% necessary, but helpful with some designs)... and clear tape as I found out later

Step 1: Drink beer and wash can.

You may want to drink it a day before. Afterall, you will he handling sharp objects!

I choose this beautiful turquoise Pinch of Salt can from Rogue because if you're going to be the Martha Stewart of PNW Beer Moms, you better choose a stylish color!

Step 2: Carefully cut the top and bottom off of the can with your scissors and toss  those peices in the Recyling.

Step 3: Cut down the side of the can so it opens up flat.

Step 3: Cut off uneven edges in a straight line so you have a nice rectangle shape.

Step 4: Fold the two long edges over about a quarter of an inch and crease it down flat to make a nice straight line.

Step 5: Cut a straight line down the middle to create two long pieces.

Step 6: Take one peice and fold the two ends together to make a tear drop shape. You can use the pliers to crimp it together.

Step 7: Realize you need tape after all! Tape crimped edges together. Boom! Feather cookie cutter!

Step 8: Have your 4 year old daughter show you a better way. Doh!

Step 9: Take second strip. Connect the two edges and tape them overlapping so they lay flat.

Step 10: Pinch crease into circle to create tear drop/feather shape.

And done! Two perfect feather shaped DIY cookie cutters!

According to pinterest you can crimp the circle into different shapes, but I haven't gotten that ambitious yet!

Now you can make your sugar cookies and decorate them.

Obviously we "Nailed it!" Except, I (the so called "expect") broke the turkey cookie 😫 Better luck next time! Time for a beer!
